Summer Festivals

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

The summer is truly the best time for music lovers, since most bands are touring and the big thing is summer festival season opens. Their have already been festivals but one that I am looking foreword to is The Forecastle Festival. This festival is right in the heart of Louisville and so for me no need to travel. The festival takes place July 10-12. So this weekend, at The Riverfront Belvedere, 5th and Main Streets, Louisville, Kentucky 40202.

8th Annual Forecastle Festival

This is the 8th Annual gathering of Forecastle and it was started in Louisville which is cool. But it is not only a music festival as the founder put it is “where the Midwest connects”. The festival includes music, art and activism. I really recommend you going to the site and checking everything out, especially the line up.  I hope to go all three days and am looking to see some new bands which I have never seen before such as The Avett Brothers. As well as some bands that I have seen and put on awesome shows like Widespread Panic, Umphrey’s Mcgee, and Yonder Mountain String Band. But their is so much more going on, it makes me very excited.

If you make it out have fun.

Running and Running

Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

Been very busy finishing up all the small things that need to be done before moving. This move is one of those that if I forget anything or don’t do it, I will not get another chance to do it again. I set up a whole bunch of auctions on ebay.com selling most of my things, or at least the things that I cant bring along. It feels good to lighten my burden and become more liquid. But it is just an extension as about a year I went through most of my stuff and did the same thing. The only difference now is I am selling the things that I just cant take.

Well a short one today, I have to get back I am still in the process of getting my records and papers in order. You know the stuff that proves you are real.

I got sent this video and wanted to share cause I do love the blues and John Lee Hooker does it soooo good. Enjoy.

Great Things Are Not Accomplished By Those Who Yield To Trends And Fads And Popular Opinion.

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

Hello everyone, another Sunday.

“The fact was I had the vision… I think everyone has… what we lack is the method.” – Jack Kerouac

“We really have to understand the person we want to love. If our love is only a will to possess, it is not love. If we only think of ourselves, if we know only our own needs and ignore the needs of the other person, we cannot love.” – Thich Nhat Hanh

“In true dialogue, both sides are willing to change.” – Thich Nhat Hanh

I would like show share these videos I have been watching whenever I have had the time. They are talks during the TED conference. “TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds. Since then its scope has become ever broader.” According to the site :) . I highly recommend you go and check out some videos.

http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks

The ones I have watched so far are:

Emily Levine: A trickster’s theory of everything

Garrett Lisi: A beautiful new theory of everything

Clifford Stoll: 18 minutes with an agile mind

Matthieu Ricard: Habits of happiness

Vilayanur Ramachandran: A journey to the center of your mind

Aubrey de Grey: Why we age and how we can avoid it

Steven Pinker: The stuff of thought

Bob Thurman: Becoming Buddha — on the Web

Barry Schwartz: The paradox of choice

These are the ones that during first passing caught my eye. I recommend, you just go to the talks page and see ones that seem like they would interest the most. to each their own.

Some more interesting information for you today comes from “The Last Hope” conference. Hope stands for Hackers On Planet Earth. The conference is or was help by a group called 2600, the group is going strong but the conference is sadly come to an end.  I can try to explain what I know, but I feel and respect them to much to not let them do it themselves here is their site: http://www.2600.com/. These are good people just trying to use their minds and spread  information, explore the site and if you are into it listen to the radio shows they that are up, I really enjoy them. But I wanted to share something that they did from The Last Hope conference, all of the talks given are put up and shared for listening enjoyment. I recommend going through the list and seeing which ones catch your eye, but for me it was most of them.

http://www.thelasthope.org/talks.html

If you found those interesting i would recommend going to back to the http://www.2600.com/ and checking out some of the other Hope conference talks. Also the magazine they release is awesome, I have been a subscriber for five years now and have read every issue front to back, they contain a lot of information.

I like this, and support and enjoy the idea.

I know I tend to be a bit bass heavy, but to say that there is to much bass, is like saying there is too much soul and man you can never have too much soul :) . So here are some videos, today is a bit of a feature of Christian McBride so I hope you enjoy his style, it is surely unique and his talent is something that makes me drool and weep, he does his thing ,great bass player. Check him out.

A video that I liked, I respect the mans music so much and a fellow Buddhist Sunny Rollins.

Have a great Sunday and take it easy, and not so fast. Peace and Love.

If You Like Rhythm and You Like Sound.

Monday, March 9th, 2009

There are some videos that I thought posting would be a great idea for people to see. I love bass and the man Stanley Clark is a true legend who should be studied and looked upon as a legend of bass playing he has brought so much great new sound and style to the way bass is played. Please enjoy this video.

Music Video Code by Killer Chops TV

This is just a video a had sent to me by a friend and liked quite a bit it is Junior Murvin Recording in Lee Perry’s in the 1970’s there is a weird voice over by some guy but all in all the video is cool, and the music is truly good.

The next two videos are short animated movies that I saw the yesterday.
The first is called: The Art of Escape
Hope you like these things.
Also I find that it is worth mentioning on Saturday I ran my first race it was a 5k which is 3.1miles it was the Anthem 5k Fitness Classic. I had a blast and ended the race at 32:33. The next race I am taking part in is a 10k on march 21. It is the Rodes City Run. That should be fun as well. Running is something new for me and I have to admit I have started to really enjoy it, it is a hard of a challenge to keep going as it physically. I hope to one day in the sort of shape to run a marathon, I am quite far away from that, but it will come with time and if I keep running who knows. As they say the first time takes the longest, each time after takes a moment.

Armegedon Was Yesterday, Today We Have A Serious Problem

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

I will start admitting that I am a selfish person I have come to understand this aspect in my life. I am don’t mean in the sense of the physically manifested world, cause when it comes to that aspect I don’t think myself as a selfish being. What I do mean is that when it comes to emotional and inner conflict I tend to be very selfish, I tend to not like dealing with hard personal problems and often when I reach a point where it is no longer bearable to me I tend to take the steps to solving my problems. I usually move quick and reckless. The reason I tend to act in such manner is cause I tend to be very guarded with my feelings and when something does break that guard it is special, but it is something that cause pain I try to cease the pain as fast as possible. I write this as example and a bit of self analysis, I am also quite aware that the way I behave is not the only way in dealing with that sort of thing, but I also believe in honesty not only is necessary to be honest with other , but it is much more important to be honest with yourself, and to delve into why you are feeling a certain way.

I have to say that I trust myself to much and so tend to listen to my inner voice without question, so acting with such thought behind it has turned into a good and bad situations. But I have to be me and trust that what ever the “I” is, it is acting in a way to make me ok.

Um pouquinho de Música

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

The idea to do a post about music came from my friend Amy’s blog at Who Ever Heard of a Fatalistic Farmer?. It is a good site, but she did a post which I liked the idea of called Mixed Tape Ten on November 3rd, 2008 which she posted new music she had found. I loving music listened to them, like I told her my tastes are not the same but I will hear anything, I suggest you check out her choices yourself. So I enjoyed the theme so I decided to “steal” it and do one of my own. I hope some like the songs I decided to share.

So here is A Little Bit of Music:

(Right Click on song and “save link-as”)

1. “Filthy McNasty” – Horace Silver from the album: Doin’ the Thing (At the Village Gate) -1961.               Note: The piano solo is amazing and starts around the 6:45 mark.

2. “It aint sposed to be like that.” – Horace Silver from thee Album: Doin’ the Thing (At the Village Gate)
-1961.   Note: This is just a really cool song.

3. “Take Ten” – Paul Desmond from the album: The Best Of Paul Desmond – 1965.                                    Note: a play on Dave Brubeck’s “Take Five” I love the Dave Brubeck song and when I saw this my ears where dying to hear it and I tell you what it is pretty cool, but if you have never heard “Take Five” or Dave Brubeck’s album Time out it is a classic and a must hear. This is Brubeck’s song “Take Five” named for the unique time signature of 5/4.

4. “Squeeze Me” – Paul Desmond from the album: The Best Of Paul Desmond – 1965.                                    Note: This is a good sunday morning Jazz song, a good wake up tune.

5. “Koukou Beyla” – Ensemble National des Percussions de Guinee from the album: DJEMBÉ – PERCUSSION D’AFRIQUE country GUINEA – 1999.   Note: I really like the changes this song goes through.

6. “Desafinado” – Coleman Hawkins from the album: Desafinado.                                                                  Note: Bossa Nova Jazz.

7. “Exotique Bossa Nova” – Martin Denny from the album: Excitting Jazz Samba Rhythms – vol.1.
