Things To Do, People To See.

Friday, July 24th, 2009

Hello, I have to say the week has been going well, getting a lot of things done. I am trying to get my personal trainer certification, the classes are quite easy. I have been reading a lot about training and learning about the body so that has made it a whole lot easier, I hope that everything goes good, and I should have it all finished by the time i leave for Brazil.

I got some links to share.

The first is an article about priming, it is an amazing human quality, that seems like something that can be taken advantage off to use people. Well that is if you don’t know what to look for.

http://changingminds.org/explanations/theories/priming.htm

These are a few more interesting articles from the same website that I really like, the site is changingminds.org. I really love the studies that have been done on human nature and how to influence minds and trying to control people. That is one of the reason I read up on things like advertising and the techniques used to try to sell stuff, but also I have to admit if you can understand these principles you are able to try them out, and block them from being used on yourself. But I do have to admit it may discourage you at how it can work, it makes me feel dirty and very manipulative to see it working, but I try it just for experiment, but be sure to explain it to those you try it on if they are your friends so you can teach them something. I have had people feel bad and and some get angry, and I can really understand it, but the way I explain it we all do some form of manipulation by the way we act or phrase our statements, at all times we try to manipulate other to get what we want. It is really interesting to see how many techniques are really out there. One of the biggest fields and the grossest to me is the male dating game. Their are all kinds of programs to try to teach men how to mind fuck a women into fucking them, that’s sick. But you know I have never done any research to see if their are such programs for women, that’s is something I will look into see if women try to manipulate men the same way. I have to say women seem to do it more visually as in appearance rather then mentally as men like to go about it. It makes sense, I mean most women do think that men are stupid just visual creatures, which I don’t think they are wrong, I don’t even exclude myself in this, cause at bars conversations and time to get to know someone is not presented their. So if you wanna know a little bit more about psychology mind studies read these articles, they are pretty intriguing.

Articles:

Forced Compliance

Information Manipulation Theory

Reciprocity Norm

Scarcity Principle

Sleeper Effect

Yale Attitude Change Approach

Last Sunday Katie and I spent most of the day in bed watching videos on the Internet, just some stuff she and I had collected and had not watched yet, so we spent a good day just laying and watching. It is a great way to spend the day.

Sports News…Sort Of?

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

OK, for those of you who have not heard their is this attractive sports reporter named Erin Andrews that works for ESPN. Their was a video leaked of her in a hotel room getting ready. Many things about this case is interesting to me. First it was shoot through a peephole which I never thought it could be done but it was. The absolute invasion of privacy also scares me. ESPN has done everything they can to get the video off the Internet and not shown, which is not possible, I mean come on that’s crazy it’s the Internet. But ESPN has not even mentioned the incident on the air, which truly I cant fully blame them cause it is not sports, but it is a member of their company and I think a statement at least would be nice but ESPN is as I like to call them Disney Sports and to even bring up such a complex issue of privacy, and invasion of rights to the average fan would be stupid, and lets be honest a lot kids do watch ESPN so Disney does not want to be responsible for young kids asking their parents question, but what a great opportunity to teach right and wrong here to young kids by confronting the issue, but also I am not taking into account that this is a real person and I don’t know what Erin Andrews wants. ESPN lawyers have been suing people including some news programs that have aired blurry images of the video, even releasing a statement about the New York Post for their coverage. This whole mess is a is such a strange cultural mess. First I want to say a woman was wronged and hurt, I would to apologize for man kind to Erin Andrews for the invasion of privacy she had to endure and the embarrassment she feels for it. It reminds me of a quote from Bob Marley, where he was talking about one of the assassination attempts on him  it goes something like “If enough people want you dead, they will find a way to get you.” Of course in Mrs. Andrews case the Internet has been obsessed with her for some time now and wanted to see her naked so, it was just a matter of time that it happened, it is one of those where their is a will their is a way. I have been reading about this incident lately the reason I wanted to write about this is cause I am one those people who is crazy about privacy, to the point I avoid being photographed, I am scared of it as it makes my heart race. But I cant imagine how she will feel now when she thinks she is in private. This event will change her life and she will now make sure to check things she never would have before, or thought she was crazy before, now there is a little bit more proof of how low people will go to something. I will conclude by saying that the avoidance of ESPN (Disney Sports) I do not think is wise and will hurt them in the long run, but I do respect that they may be adhering to Mrs. Andrews’ wishes, and getting her back, but avoiding the issue never makes it go away. I do this the video is wrong and I will add I hold no moral high ground I saw the video when it came out, on a sports blog, I am amazed at how much can be video taped through a peephole. Watch yourselves my friends.

So first of all I want to talk about some shortwave radio stuff, last Thursday the 16Th of July I was doing some exploring on the shortwave band and found some new stations I wanted to share. My location is Louisville Kentucky 38 degrees 15′37″N  85 degrees 26′53″W elev 214m  at 12:40p.m. on frequency 15398MHZ I picked up a French speaking talk station I could not understand much of but I know it was France cause I could pick up the Station identification every once in a while, at 12:46p.m. on frequency 11549 I received a Spanish speaking station broadcasting from Costa Rica, I can speak Spanish pretty well so I was able to listen to it for some time I liked it and am gonna see if I can get again. Then finally I got good old Voice of America at 9881 at 1:12p.m. I was pretty happy at what I found just searching the shortwave band cause it was the middle of the day and usually night is the time for scanning. I want to talk a little about shortwave radio, I don’t many people my age that like to listen to as much radio I do, and even less that like shortwave, but thanks to the Internet I have met many people all over the world that like the hobby. I am not gonna go into what shortwave is and what frequencies it includes and information on it cause their are so many websites that do such a good job, better then i could do here. Radio is fun to me, waves in the air that if you have the right equipment you can pick up sounds from all over the world.

On Friday I got up before the sun rose, I went to the park to get some photos of the lake, it had rained the night before and I was hoping to capture some fog raising from the lake, the picture came out OK, I posted one on my flickr account. Then I left the park and went to the grocery store. But what made my day was I went to a indoor gun range to practice my marksmanship. I own a Smith & Wesson SW9VE. It is a nice gun a 9mm and I like to practice with it. But while I was at the range it was me and two pretty older ladies shooting. I was shocked at the company at the range I mean to pretty ladies shooting I have to say I find hot.

On Saturday I took a class from the American Red Cross, to get my CPR/AED, and First Aid certificate. After the six hour class and taking and passing the test, I got certified. The reason I have for doing this is, I would like to get my personal trainer certificate. So now with my certificates from the Red Cross it will be a whole lot easier to become a personal trainer. I don’t have much time before I move to Brazil so I have to finish this up quickly.

Summer Festivals

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

The summer is truly the best time for music lovers, since most bands are touring and the big thing is summer festival season opens. Their have already been festivals but one that I am looking foreword to is The Forecastle Festival. This festival is right in the heart of Louisville and so for me no need to travel. The festival takes place July 10-12. So this weekend, at The Riverfront Belvedere, 5th and Main Streets, Louisville, Kentucky 40202.

8th Annual Forecastle Festival

This is the 8th Annual gathering of Forecastle and it was started in Louisville which is cool. But it is not only a music festival as the founder put it is “where the Midwest connects”. The festival includes music, art and activism. I really recommend you going to the site and checking everything out, especially the line up.  I hope to go all three days and am looking to see some new bands which I have never seen before such as The Avett Brothers. As well as some bands that I have seen and put on awesome shows like Widespread Panic, Umphrey’s Mcgee, and Yonder Mountain String Band. But their is so much more going on, it makes me very excited.

If you make it out have fun.

Off Topic Today

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Today I am gonna talk about exercise. Why? Well because to loose the weight I did, I had to change the way I lived, it was not so much about the exercise cause I never minded doing, but it really was the way I ate, well the basics of it was I did not have much control over that that aspect of life, but once I realized that I could control my eating habits, the domino’s fell into place. But I mention that cause yesterday I started a new exercise routine, I have lost all the weight I wanted and am told I need to gain some. I want to gain muscle, so late one night AJ and I where watching TV when that P90X infomercial came on, it looked interesting and AJ said that he looked it up and it had worked, that peaked my interest, I thought hey I could give it a try. So I found it (haha). After getting everything ready, such as the nutrition guide and yesterday I did the pretest. Today I started the core of the system and doing it got my chest and back burning, so sitting here I am very excited to do this. It is a 90 days program. Hopefully it works for me but we will see. Note: I would show pictures of myself but I have a fear of being photographed so I do apoligize.

Here is the site for it.

Also one thing that I am excited about and to be perfectly honest I have butterflies and am quite nervous about, the city I live in Louisville Kentucky has this event called the Triple Crown of running and I have wanted to do it for a while and finally this year I singed up to did. I have actually never run a race and that is what makes me a bit nervous, but I figure I should try everything at least once, but in this case three times haha. If you like running and are gonna be in Louisville around the time on the site I suggest you try it as well, it is for charity. So it is for a good cause. The first run is 3 miles, the second is 6.2 miles, and the last is 10 miles.

Learning to speak Braile.

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

I always knows the EXACT location of Carmen San Diego!

Man I having a great mental block, not a lack of ideas but sort of so many ideas I don’t have the ability to fallow any of them through, ha, oh no my ADD taking over. Today I want to share some articles and things I have read and want to pass along. Have a good weekend.

-First this was a story about Buddhism that really hit my heart, and speaks to remind me so much to why I proudly call myself a Buddhist. “Zen Master Dae Kwang – Kill the Buddha“.

-I stumbled on this and really liked it being left handed myself, Also check out this article about being left handed: “Being Left-handed.”  Also I hope this exert from an essay I read is right. :)

“A really interesting question is whether there is any connection between left handed people and creative genius. Some of history’s most creative minds have been left-handed.

In the category of art, both Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo were left handed. In the category of music, Ludwig van Beethoven was left handed. In the field of science and invention, you find Benjamin Franklin, Isaac Newton, and Albert Einstein. In the field of motion pictures, Charlie Chaplin.

Bobby Fisher, the modern chess genius, is left handed. So too musical geniuses Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, and Wynton Marsalis.

Each of the these persons had a mind so exceptional as to be head and shoulders above anyone else in their field. So even though it may be more difficult for a left handed person to live in a right handed world, lefties can know that they are in good company. Beethoven and Einstein had it tough, too.”

-These articles are creepy, and if it does not make you question what your eating nothing will. “Radio Caller Reveals Cannibal Habits.” also here is another article related to the subject to confirm it does happen scary. “Human Flesh on Sale in Moldova.”

- I am a bit of a math geek and when I saw this I like it a lot. “A million digits of Pi.”

-The spinning girl optical Illusion, this is so weird, try making this woman switch directions, it took me a second but with a bit of concentration I was able to get her to switch directions. It does work (If you can’t get to work the article has a link that is really cool and allows you see for yourself). “Spinning Girl.”

———–http://www.getyouhome.gov/———

This is real and it is pretty scary to me, It is the start of the national ID card. I have to do more research about this but I wanted to post it. I does become active on June 9th, 2009. The new “passport card” is the main concern. I am sure that people will line up to get issued this because anything that appears to make things easier is quickly accepted. But I just wanted to inform on this new program and really make up your own mind on it.
